"Boy, These People Like to Have Fun"
It’s not where you go, it’s who goes with you
Barry Ruby’s second Imagine brings it home
Barry Ruby has been RV’ing since he was 13. Back then his parents, who ran a farm breeding cattle, rented a camper, met a group of friends, and just hung out for a week.
Immediately bitten by the bug Barry recalls, “I thought it was just outstanding. It was an awesome week.”
Many trips followed. His parents were keen on fishing and pulled their trailer to follow their passion wherever the fish were to be found, summer, fall, and even Minnesota ice fishing in winter. The Ruby caravan then consisted of a truck, which pulled a fifth wheel, which pulled a fishing boat. Leaving many happy family memories in its wake.
From Fishing Grounds to Fair Grounds.
As much fun as they had traveling to fishing and camping grounds, the centerpiece of the year was the annual trip to the state fairground, where the family, along with many of their neighbors and friends, would gather each summer to show their animals, catch up, and enjoy a break before the end of summer.
It’s a tradition that Barry has happily continued now that he has his own children and his own camper. Each August you’ll find him set up at the Missouri State Fair for two weeks celebrating his son’s birthday, reconnecting with friends from his hometown, and taking in all the concerts.
“It’s a controlled environment, but one with a lot of freedom. It’s perfect for teenagers”
(Of which Barry and his girlfriends have two, who are near-constant companions for their trips.)
The same could be said of Barry’s new Imagine 2910BH trailer, bought just this last June from Harper Camperland in Kansas.
The number one selling point for him over his last Imgine is the barndoor that separates the kids' bunk house from the main living area. A thin divide, but a priceless addition for Barry who likes to get up early, brew a coffee, and take in the morning peace.
Barry takes up the story, “We all travel so well together. We know exactly what needs to be done to set off and set up, but as the kids have gotten older it became obvious that they’d need a bit more privacy and this new layout gives them all of that…and it’s great for me too. I like my space in the morning.”
The Happiest Memory
Barry has only happy memories from his years RVing but when asked which was his absolute happiest moment, he pauses to reflect. Surprisingly, it’s not the moment he pulled into the Lake of the Ozarks just as the sun was setting on a spontaneous trip planned hours ago, (although that’s a good one, too) but something much closer to home;
“Driving back from the dealer with my new Imagine was honestly the best feeling I’ve ever had with a trailer. I was like a little kid. I’d kept the new purchase a big secret from the kids and I was so excited to show off the extra space, their own bunks, the new styling, and simple things like the power outlets to charge their phones. It made me beam.”
“I felt like I was on top of the world.”
“These people like to have fun”
At Grand Design we love to ask our owners one simple question that tells us all we need to know about how they enjoy their rig.
“If your trailer could talk, what would it tell us about you and your adventures together?”
Barry’s reply? “Boy, these people like to have fun!”
